■ここに生きる植物について／About a plant growing here

この草原には２種類の特徴的な植物が生えています。ひとつは「オオアワダチソウ」。 これは明治の中期に観賞用としてアメリカから持ち込まれたもので、野生化して北海道のいたるところで繁茂し、日本在来種を追いやり、現在では法律によって要注意外来生物に指定されています。もうひとつの植物は、皆さんにおなじみの「ススキ」。こちらは日本を含む東アジア原産といわれ、古くから歌に詠まれたり、屋根葺き材などとしても利用されてきました。しかし「ススキ」は逆に、明治時代に観賞用として海外に持ち出され、北アメリカでは現在、侵略的外来種として猛威を振るっているそうです。その二つの植物が、この場で向かい合い、互いに精一杯生きています。ここで起きていることは戦いなのか共生なのか、どちらかが善で、どちらかが悪なのか…。　互いの場から、静かに向こうを眺めたとき、あなたの目に映る風景は、我々に何を問うているのでしょうか。

Two kinds of characteristic plants grow on this grassy plain. The first is "Late Goldenrod". It was brought in for admiration from the United States in the Meiji era. And it spreads everywhere of Hokkaido and expels a Japanese inherent plant. The second plant is "Miscanthus Sinensis". This is originally from East Asia including Japan. This plant is related to Japanese culture deeply. However, It was sent to the foreign countries for admiration use in the Meiji era and seems to rage as an aggressive naturalized species now in North America. Two plants are next to each other here and live. Which is good, and which is evil?
When you looked at the other side calmly from each other's places, what will the scenery to be reflected in the eyes ask us?
